Founder and director

The inspiration to found RIBISLI came from my grandmothers. Sunken deep into their thoughts they both handcrafted hours and hours every day. The textiles which they made with great dedication had to survive the test of time, were much appreciated and highly prized, all in opposite to our present “single use and throw away’ society.

Since my childhood I have lived in several countries and I am convinced that these needle work skills and the rich folklore traditions which are still alive in Hungary, do represent a real treasure for the future. By founding RIBISLI I make an attempt to give support and my reverence to women with such extraordinary knowledge.

I am convinced that only companies which strive for harmony between commercial and social interests can become successful in the long term.

Embroidery & Lace

As a little girl I became very fond of needle work that was part of our curriculum at school. Embroidery can make us perfectly relax, feel free and stimulates our creativity and fantasy. It makes me feel good when I have made something beautiful and enduring. It is always a pleasant challenge to realize an idea, since we bring our past and heritage into the presence and the future.

Whenever I do needlework, the world opens up. Ideas, colors and forms come to birth that I am also part of. Some people say that my handwriting is just like embroidery: a chain of pearls, drawn with patience and beauty.

Embroidery & Lace

My mother lived the last ten years of her life with us. She embroidered so much that we could barely keep up buying yarn for her. One day my husband decided that he would like to try it as well.  When the three of us set down to needlework, my mother came alive: she taught us radiated much happiness. While embroidering together, we had great fun and lots of talk. Sometimes, we did a contest to see who could create the most beautiful piece of embroidery.

Nowadays, my husband and I embroider in two different rooms: my husband watches sport programs while embroidering and I enjoy romantic movies. Sometimes we ‘visit’ each other to show how we proceeded and get some critical feedback.  Stitches, that are too loose, must be undone. We only want to deliver excellent needlework

The relationship between textile and art has always appealed to me. After I finished my studies at the arts academy I earned my living primarily as a shop window dresser. Patterns and motives have always intrigued me and I honestly believe that textile and handwork together represent an excellent opportunity for old and new to meet.

Embroidery & Lace

When I was a small girl, aunty Ancika lived next door and I found her beautiful embroideries simply amazing.  She noticed this and on one day she gave me a small table clothes with a preprinted pattern on it. This first needlecraft experience gave me so much pleasure and success feeling, that the wonderful world of embroidery has infected me straight away. From that moment on, every time she has chosen a new piece of embroidery, she bought 2 of it, one for her and one for me.

I never stopped loving needlecraft ever since and I also learnt various cutwork embroidery techniques, like Richelieu or ‘broderie anglaise’. A couple of hours embroidery is an excellent way for me to relax after a hard day work.

“There is the earth under you, the sky above you and the ladder in your.” - Sándor Weöres poem

Each object, each pattern in the Hungarian folks-culture tells us a message from the past. Their forms, the drawings and the colours, all reflect our soul and due to their concealed wisdom give us a gentle orientation in this world.

Embroidery and lace on linen are nothing but turning the flowers of our mind into a shape. Such needle crafted flowers originate from an invisible universe beyond our everyday human life and are the source of inspiration for my work.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing a completed piece of needlework. I experienced that feeling already at a young age when I went to a Steiner grammar school in Germany. We learned to make all sorts of things by hand, let it be knitting, sewing, basket weaving and working on a farm or in a garden. I do not only see a product, I also realize there are people behind it who put their love, time and expertise in making it. That’s why I pay much respect to quality handmade products. RIBISLI gives me the chance to promote the special value of female handcraft.

Graphic design - logo- packaging

I like regular forms and systems in certain patterns, but they will only be living if there is something irregular, surprising in them, just like in nature. This is the reason why Gropius (father of the Bauhaus style) has inspired me so much, when I read his book  “Unity and diversity, diversity and unity, or in other words military uniforms contra folklore clothing.”

I have an approach to the tasks and challenges in my life that boils down to flexibility, humor, thoughtfulness and playfulness. We, designers, must feel extra responsibility, that’s why I opted for the following motto regarding my professional work: „ Beware! The packaging will someday be opened!”.

Embroidery & Lace

I am 25 years old and have always been interested in handmade products. From my childhood I had been fascinated by the embroidery of my mother. She taught me how to make embroidery and crochet. It gives me much delight to see my work completed and how beautiful it has become. I fully agree with the thought of designer Karen Alfke: “Knitting forges friends together,  yarns improves our sight and handwork connects generations..”

Embroidery & Lace

From my youth on I have been attracted to the world of handcrafting. In the old days children learnt knitting, lacing and embroidering at school. In the winter it was my favorite occupation and I could come to a kind of inner calmness. Now that I am retired, I have more time again. The experience, the joy of creating is simply priceless. Every time I complete a  piece I always feel very satisfied.

Embroidery & Lace

As a girl of 6, I agreed to an tonsillectomy only under the condition that I would get a ball of yarn and crochet pens. Following my operation I was fully occupied with the struggle of ‘lace making’ from early dawn till late night. I did not even notice that I have healed in the meantime. There was also a young soldier, recovering from an operation too. He was bored and asked me why I cannot stop torturing that funny pen and entangled yarn. With deep emotions I explained to him how terribly important thing it is. So he tried and finally proved to be a better one than me, because his lace could be unstrung unlike mine…
